The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is asking visitors to
Mount
Beerwah to heed warning signs and track closures after several rescues
at the closed site.
EPA Regional Manager Mr Geoff Brittingham said a
30 tonne rockfall in June 2008 had closed the main track and damaged
the lookout at the base of the walk.
“The massive rockfall occurred directly above the main track to the
Mount Beerwah summit, snapping trees up to 40 centimetres thick and
leaving a trail of debris and deeply gouged tree trunks in its wake,” Mr
Brittingham said.
“The rockfall also caused significant damaged the popular lookout at the
base of the walk.

For those who want to get to the top of a mountain but
without climbing/scrambling try the 253m Mt Ngungun which
provides great views of the larger nearby Glass House Mountains. But the
700m track is steep and a little unstable in the upper sections. Access
is from
Fullertons Rd.
There is also a steep 1.4km (return) walking track to
the top of Mt Beerburrum (278m). Access is from
Beerburrum Rd,
just south of the Beerburrum township.
The Glass House Mountains lookout, south of Mt
Beerwah, off
Glasshouse-Woodford Rd, can be reached by car.
There are plenty of great vantage points, such as Mary Cairncross
Park, along Mountain View Rd which follows the southern edge of the
Blackall Range near Maleny. Wild
Horse Mountain lookout is a 25 minute walk from the car park off
Johnstone Rd, just a few hundred metres from the Bruce Highway.
