Brisbane City Hall is described as a mix of classical styles
with Ancient Roman and Greek influences. Work on the sandstone
(quarried at Helidon) building was started in 1920 and it opened for business on
January 3, 1928 (it was officially opened on April 8, 1930, by
Queensland Governor Sir John Goodwin). The main administrative functions
were moved from the grand old building many years ago but it is still the
scene of council meetings. It is located in King George Square, between
Adelaide and Ann streets, just a block west of the Queen Street Mall in the
city centre.
