The Breadknife

The Breadknife as seen from Spirey View. Warrumbungle National Park's best-known landmark was formed 13-17 million years ago when trachyte, a thick lava, flowed into a crack in the ancient shield volcano (about 50km across) which covered the area. The 90m-high Breadknife was revealed when the softer surrounding rock eroded away. This vantage point is a relatively easy walk along Spirey Creek until a short uphill section at the end (total 6.2km return).
