Yamba and the Lower Clarence

The rockpool at Yamba's Main Beach is a popular spot for early
morning swimmers who relish the cold water

The first rays of dawn illuminate the Yamba lighthouse. It stands on
Pilot Head,
at the
entrance to the Clarence River. It was built
in 1955 and
the light is about 41m above sea level.

The Blue Pool at Angourie. It is about 150m from the parking lot
and picnic area at the end of The Crescent. Like the nearby
Green
Pool it was a quarry, the rock from which was used
to build the wall on the southern side of the mouth of the
Clarence River, and the so-called middle wall,
from 1893-1903.
The southern wall was extended, and the northern
wall built,
between 1951 and 1971 using stone from Illarwill near
Maclean,
and large concrete blocks. The Angourie quarries filled
with fresh
water after work finished.
